Manchester City is prepared to splash copious amounts of cash.
Speaking Friday ahead of the club’s season finale against Watford, Pep Guardiola promised there will be upheaval at the Etihad during the impending transfer window.
Given the high-octane style of play the Spaniard desires, there are key areas in the squad that need to be upgraded significantly this summer; primarily, the full-back spots are crying out for a personnel change.
The Citizens have been linked with moves for Tottenham‘s apparently disgruntled right-back Kyle Walker, while Monaco‘s Benjamin Mendy, a physical marvel who can bomb up and down the left flank and provide stunning quality with his delivery from out wide, has been rumoured as a possible target for the opposite side.
City is also expected to scour the market for a new goalkeeper – Willy Caballero‘s contract is set to expire, and Claudio Bravo has been nothing short of a disaster this season – while injury concerns surrounding the likes of Ilkay Gundogan and captain Vincent Kompany will likely see Guardiola dip into the market for new central midfielders and defenders.
The situation with 34-year-old Ivorian icon Yaya Toure, however, remains unclear. The veteran looked a certainty to be discarded earlier in the season, but his recent revival has led to suggestions that he could yet be offered a new deal to remain in Manchester.
Either way, City is guaranteed to dig deep into the pocket book once the transfer window opens.
