Ibrahimovic's knee injury 'fairly negative'

Manchester United

striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic was forced off the pitch after landing awkwardly on his right leg in the latter stages of Thursday’s Europa League quarter-final against Anderlecht.

Anthony Martial replaced the big Swede for the start of extra time.

With the score 2-2 on aggregate in the final few minutes of regular time, the 35-year-old appeared to tweak his knee as he attempted to take down a cross. A stretcher was called onto the pitch, but Ibrahimovic hobbled off with the help of United’s medical staff.

Ibrahimovic hasn’t dealt with any lengthy injury absences over his career – the longest he has ever been out is 46 days, according to Transfermarkt – but the sight of this one made onlookers recoil.

Marcos Rojo did require a stretcher in the first half after suffering his own injury, potentially robbing manager Jose Mourinho of two of his most trusted starters for the final stretch of the season.

(Why?)
